Rosso di Montalcino Castello Banfi
What makes people love wine? For me it’s the exploration. I am by nature a restless person who is invigorated by new and changing ideas. When I first got into wine I was so excited because there is just such a vast array of options, varietals and regions to explore. I don’t know if I will ever be done learning and trying wines so for me the world of wine is a perfect fit. That is only the beginning, I am astounded by how sometimes a glass of wine can totally enhance your experience.
Right now I’m exploring Italy a little bit. Italy can be overwhelming for the wine consumer. It is a vast land of vines and varietals and is the number one wine producing country in the world. Tonight is the Rosso di Montalcino Banfi from the Brunello region of Tuscany. This wine presents with tart cherry and licorice and leather with some fall leaves thrown in. I read some people thought this was a spring wine but I totally disagree. The color alone is the essence of fall and the flavors are more compatible with pasta by fireside than picnic on the beach. I can see opening this on one of those rainy days while I cook a comfort meal for the family. This wine most definitely opens up over about an hour or so. It would be enjoyed with food.
